Dog toilets are a fantastic solution for pets spending a large amount of time indoors, such as apartment buildings. Dog toilets are a hygienic and easy to clean solution for your pet's bathroom needs. Pet Circle stocks a number of pet toilets for your home to remain clean, tidy and smelling fresh all the time.
Pet Loo Petsafe Toilet | Best purchase ever. To train my puppy to use this I collected some of his urine and placed it on the mat for him to smell. Immediately he used the petloo. I don't bother with the Pee sponge. I have this in the spare second shower where I can empty container straight into the toilet and hose down the mat for cleaning. Best to buy a second mat to swap over when thorough clean needed. - TRACY |
Pawise Indoor Dog Toilet | I bought two Dog toilets to put on our enclosed Deck. My 13wk old pup took several days to use, but now he uses all the time, of course it does need to be cleaned regularly! A spray with disinfectant and a good rinse, then left out to dry in the sun to dry, while he is having his naps. The spare grass mat used while the other is drying. - LORRAINE |
Toilet training in an apartment poses additional challenges, with no backyard or courtyard access. Luckily, there are ways around this problem, with clever pet toilet solutions and training.
Dogs and puppies will learn where and when to go to the toilet through certain associations like scent, tactile sensation, location, verbal commands and surrounding certain activities such as eating, drinking, after playing and sleeping.
Select which toilet option you want to train your dog use when nature calls, whether it is pee pads, pet toilets or real turf toilets. Place the toilet in a location you would like your dog or puppy to use consistently. After eating, drinking, waking-up or after playing, your dog or puppy will often need to go to the toilet. Taking them to the location of the pet toilet and using a command such as 'go toilet' will help your dog learn that this is where you would like them to go when nature calls. This step can take some time for your pet to make the association, so patience is key. The scent of urine will help create an association of where your pet should go to the toilet in future. Stay calm if your pet has an accident, toilet training can take a long time for some dogs and puppies. Never punish your pet for going to the toilet in the wrong spot, this can create anxiety around going to the toilet in front of you. When they do go in the right spot, lots of praise!
Dog loos will provide a similar tactile feeling of grass and are an excellent option for apartment buildings. Real-turf toilets are helpful for dogs who prefer the natural feeling of grass, however, they are more expensive as turf needs to be replaced frequently, can't be cleaned and requires access sufficient light like a balcony, which can be unsafe for unsupervised pets.
