Need anything else?
Specially designed for smaller breeds, dog car seats and boosters help elevate your pooch to a higher position while travelling, allowing them to see out the window and stay secure during travel. A dog car seat provides both added comfort and visibility for your pet and also ensure their safety by restraining them and minimising distractions for the driver.
They are great for protecting your vehicle's upholstery and can help reduce motion and car sickness in dogs. Overall, they provide a safe and comfortable way for dogs to enjoy car rides while keeping both the pet and driver secure.
Booster seats for dogs have a range of benefits, both for drivers and pets. They ensure your dog remains securely in place and minimise distractions an are equipped with seat belts designed specifically for dogs for extra safety. They also reduce the risk of damage to your car's interior from the inevitable shedding, scratching and potential car sickness that comes with transporting a dog in a car.
For smaller breeds of dogs especially, car seats allow them to gaze out from the window, making the journey more relaxing and enjoyable. This added visibility and looking outside can help alleviate symptoms of motion sickness.
For dogs who experience anxiety during car travel, the seat can be removed and used as a training tool to help them build positive associations, and help minimise their anxiety. By making the car seat a positive place for your pooch to be (by rewarding calm behaviour when sitting in the seat with treats, play and praise), it will help them feel more positive and comfortable when the car seat is placed.
Car booster seats are primarily designed for small to medium-sized dogs, as they typically need the additional height to see out the window and require a more confined space for safety and comfort.
While larger dogs may not be suitable for car booster seats, alternative options like hammocks and dog car harnesses or restraints are available to ensure their safety and comfort during travel.
Car booster seats for dogs are rectangular beds with high, firm sides that raise your dog above the car's seat so that they can see out of the window. There are two main types. In the first type, the booster seat hangs off sturdy straps that go around the headrest and body of the car's seat, so that the bottom of the booster seat is suspended above the seat of the car.
This type won't be suitable if your car doesn't have headrests, or you aren't able to put a strap around the body of the car's seat. The second type sits on the seat of the car and is secured using the seatbelt. There is a raised platform inside the booster seat that the dog sits on. This type is suitable for most cars.
Firstly, you need to check what type of car seat will work in your car. Secondly, you need to check that the car seat is suitable for your dog’s size and weight. All dog car booster seats will have an upper weight limit - it's important not to go over this limit as otherwise the booster seat won't be safe. You should also make sure that your dog will have enough room to comfortably sit and lie down in the car seat.
Finally, you might like to consider the material the car seat is made of, and whether it can be folded down for easier storage.
