Cat puzzle toys are a delight for curious cats and kittens! Cat food and treat puzzles are a type of food or treat dispenser that require your cat to work through different obstacles and games to earn themselves a food reward. Using a treat or food puzzle can also help to slow down a cat's rate of eating to aid digestion and weight loss. Puzzle toys for cats also provide essential mental stimulation which can prevent boredom and destructive behavioural issues.
Absolutely! A 2016 study done by researchers at the University of California, Davis found that cat puzzle toys can enrich the lives of domestic cats by encouraging them to express their natural foraging behaviours. The study demonstrated that cats who use food puzzles tend to be more physically fit and less stressed. They also had fewer behavioural problems such as aggression and overgrooming.
How Do You Teach A Cat To Use A Food Puzzle?
Teaching a cat to engage with puzzle toys should be done gradually to avoid frustration. Initially, combine regular bowl feeding with introducing a puzzle toys or feeder. Adjust the toy settings for easy food access and opt for clear or open designs. To pique the cat's interest, scatter dry food around the puzzle. As proficiency grows and stress is absent, increase the daily food allowance through these toys.
Catit Play Treat Puzzle | My cat used to inhale his dry food then demand more. This obstacle course keeps him busy for much longer. It's challenging but not impossible. It's abit light - it does move around a bit while he's trying to get things out. I've blu-tacked it down which works for a while. But it's working really well in terms of slowing down his feeding and keeping him entertained. - AM |
Paws for Life Puzzle | This one is the BEST puzzle so far i have found for my cats. It is aimed at dogs but it is perfect for my adventurous cats. Treats are not just presented to them they need to uncover them. I highly recommend it. Even though they find them quicker, we play uncover where is the treat as well. A really good cat and owner interactive game. - MISHEL |
