It's no secret that dog's love an engaging and physically stimulating game of tug-of-war to wear them out! Rope toys are a versatile toy that can be shared between owner and dog, doggy friends or individually in the fight against destructive chewing. This makes them a great tool for strengthening the bond between all members of the family!
fetch toys and double as excellent chew toys, keeping your dog mentally and physically stimulated. They also lead to a lot of mouth and jaw exercise, as well as rub against the teeth to support dental health.
Rope toys can also be a great option to support sharing between dogs and helping to build a strong bond with the person on the other end of the rope. They can also be a valuable training tool for bite inhibition, impulse control and teaching your puppy 'Drop It'.
No dog toy is indestructible, so make sure you consider what purpose you intend to use the rope toy for and your dog's play and chew style when choosing a rope toy. For tough chewers, string based toys may fray or small strings may be swallowed, which can get stuck in the digestive tract. Instead look for high quality, tightly wound or fleece ropes that are more durable. If you do notice a rope toy is broken or fraying, then you should replace it.
Dogs that like to play tug with other dogs may prefer longer, thicker rope toys like the Paws For Life Mega Long Rope. If your dog can get a little bit excited and struggles with bit inhibition while playing with you, then something with a hand guard like the Petsafe Grip and Tug might be a good option. For drooly dogs, then something that wicks away slobber like the Playology Dri Tech ropes may be a great option.
Puppies have more fragile teeth and may be teething, so softer rope toys or soft toys with rope inserts are often better options for them. Rope toys aimed at benefiting dental health often have rubber components that can withstand more durable chewing. When used for fetch, shorter rope toys that are easier to throw and catch in your dog's mouth are the best option.
