Puppies experience teething between 8 weeks to 6 months of age. Teething and Chewing toys provide something to soothe their mouths and also keep those sharp teeth away from your prized possessions. Puppies explore the world during their prime socialisation period through not only their sight and hearing but through their mouth.
Toys are a great way to interact and play with your puppy. Bonding over a game of fetch or even as a reward during training are some of the ways toys can be used. Puppies in new and unfamiliar homes may find great comfort cuddling next to a toy.
When choosing the toy for your puppy its important to consider their age and their breed! Very young puppies may benefit from soft cuddly toys, to help keep them company in their new home. Toys with various textures, sounds and that can grow with your pup are also important. For bully breeds or working dog breeds, their instincts to chew, hunt and explore can be quite strong. Picking toys that they can interact with and that can withstand hefty puppy chewing are must.
On the other hand teething toys are all about chewing, and providing some relief as their adult teeth come through. Some toys will include various textures to help massage the gums whilst others can be filled with water and freezed for teething relief. Ensure to pick a suitable sized toy and inspect it daily for wear and tear, and replace as necessary.
KONG have a reputation of creating tough, durable toys for cats and dogs. Their toys have been designed for play, enrichment and chewing!

The best toys to keep a puppy occupied are those that utilise their instincts to eat and chew. Food based chew toys or food dispensing toys are particularly good, however teething toys that can be frozen are great for providing a different texture, temperature and tactile toy for a puppy to play with.
Cuddle toys are essential for providing comfort and soothing puppies, especially in unfamiliar environments. They are used to mimic sleeping next to their litter mates and are great for pups learning to crate train.
As with all toys, supervision is recommended. Chew toys should be regularly inspected daily. If there are any loose or broken parts, they should be disposed of accordingly.
