Petrack Smart Pet Tag Pink | I recently discovered this product after finding someone's dog! It was amazing! I was in a rush and couldn't stay so I tied the pup up to a fence andsent the location to the owner. I couldn't help but notice about 20 mins later after coming back that the owner was there untying their dog! It's super exciting to see how easy it was and I like that it has lots of info like medical conditions, favourite treats, behavioural traits/warnings as well. Super awesome product. - DEAN |
Pawise Hands Free Jogger Kit | I wasn't sure about this belt, but figured it was an inexpensive way to find out if my Lab would take to a running belt. Best $15 I've spent all year! Love it! Surprisingly good quality material in the belt and the lead. Firm hold around your hips, with stretch in the belt and the lead in case your dog takes off or stops suddenly. The lead also has a handy hand loop and can be used as a conventional lead for extra control. Would definitely recommend! - LUCY |
There are numerous health benefits to owning pets. Our pets can lower our stress levels and help us be more physically active. The Australian Health Department recommends healthy adults participate in 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate intensity exercise each week, such as brisk walking. So, how much physical activity is recommended for our dogs?
Most dogs will tolerate 20 to 30 minutes of walking per day, more active breeds may require much more daily exercise between 60 to 120 minutes per day. There are a number of factors which will determine the level of physical activity your dog can do with ease. If your dog is older, obese, brachycephalic or has any health conditions such as arthritis it is best to consult your veterinarian to get a more tailored exercise plan.
If you do not exercise your dog regularly, you will need to watch your dog closely to gauge their exercise tolerance. Your dog may be charging ahead for the first part of the walk, then start to slow down and become more interested in sniffing and taking regular breaks. It is best to turn around at this point before your dog is starting to lag behind and you are only half way through your walk. To help track walks and your pets progress, there are high-tech options now like the activity trackers to monitor your dog's progress. To read more about this see our article Activity monitors for pets.
Monitoring your dog after a walk can also help you know if you went too far. If your dog is exhausted for the rest of the day or appears sore after a walk, they have gone further than what is comfortable for their health and fitness level.
