High-value training treats are helpful during training sessions to incentivise your cat. The ideal training treats are available in smaller portions or able to be broken into smaller pieces and easily given for an immediate reward. A training pouch makes it easy to reward your cat immediately to reinforce a behaviour or trick. Always remember that treats should account for 5% of your cat's total daily food intake. Follow the recommended feeding guides during these sessions.
Cats can be trained! To start with, tasty training treats and a clicker will be helpful. Clicker training is a great way to accelerate training with your cat. The aim of the clicker is to associate the sound with a reward. When you are doing further training sessions and your cat performs the desired behaviour, the clicker offers immediate feedback that they have performed the correct behaviour and a reward will follow.
Start your sessions with the clicker sound then throwing a treat to your cat. Repeat this process a few times per day until your cat associates the clicker sound with a treat. Once your cat is consistently responding to the clicker sound, you can start to teach your cat tricks like sitting and teaching to give their paw. To maximise success, your cat should be hungry and energetic. Keep training sessions short and fun.
