What are the benefits of using a lick mat?

Lick mats are an enrichment aid created by veterinarians to fight boredom and stress in domestic pets. Licking releases endorphins which help your pet feel calm, while stimulating saliva production that protects teeth and gums and freshens breath. Lick mats reduces calorie intake, by making small tasty treats last longer which in turn reduces the risk of over feeding and assist with weight loss. They can be used with wet food, gravy or liquids. Try freezing your lick mat and treat in summer for a fun icy treat for your cat.

How do you clean cat feeding mats?

It's important to keep lick mats and feeding mats clean as saliva and food can cause harmful bacteria and mould to build up. Lick mats can be cleaned with hot water and detergent. If there is dried food stuck in between the grooves, soaking in warm water overnight can make it easier to clean. Some lick mats are also dishwasher friendly. For snuffle mats, check the product instructions to determine if your mat is machine washable or not. If it is, simply pop into the washing machine. If not, cold handwash with detergent and allow it to air dry.
